Hi it’s Laura. With the Amidlife Traveler podcast and Happy Almost Halloween? Here we are in October and this episode today is kind of Halloween based… it’s a little bit about ghost tours but it’s also to give you a really cool new resource to help you plan some vacations that you may have coming up.
The New Secret Sauce for Resourceful US Travelers?
The resource is called Get Your Guide and I just recently discovered these guys while at a travel conference in Ireland and Get Your Guide is sort secret sauce for travel planning at least in the US because it’s not really known here yet…it’s a European based company. They’re huge over in Europe and aggregate lots of tours everything from small mom and pop local authentic tours all the way up to the big tour providers plus they offer 24/7 support and all sorts of cool stuff. You’ll hear for on this from Will.
But wait, what about the Ghosts?
When podcast host Laura sat down to talk with Will Gluckin from Get Your Guide to learn more about it the bar trivia tidbit that Edinburgh Scotland is apparently the most haunted city in the world came to light. Who knew? Well I guess Will knew, and if you’re listening (or reading) then now you know.

Laura – Amidlife Traveler: So we are in Killarney Ireland and I am thrilled to be talking to Will. He is with Get Your Guides and they are a fantastic resource for the traveler who wants to book a vacation… so maybe six months ago you got a cheap flight to somewhere but you’re not sure what you’re going to do yet. Well, you can go to their web site look at a city and get complete ideas for half day one day to day three day tours. But hang on but let’s let Will tell you about it…
Will – Get Your Guide: Sure thanks Laura. Yes, that’s right. We’re the largest online marketplace for tours and activities. We have over 31000 things to do and 7300 destinations around the world and that number is growing everyday.
Laura – Amidlife Traveler: Seven thousand three hundred destinations 7300 destinations?
Will – Get Your Guide: That’s right. Anywhere on just about any continent I think except Antarctica. But we’re working on that. There’s not many things to do you know where we’re trying to get the penguin activities onboard (smile). So whether you are looking for a full day tour or a quick walk around the city with a local who knows it really well, or just a skip the line ticket at an attraction, Get Your Guide has that for you.
Laura – Amidlife Traveler: Can you give us some examples of the Day Tours that people might find at your site? Food tours ghost tours… What kind of stuff?
Will – Get Your Guide: Absolutely. Ghost Tours are extremely popular right now. It’s October. So people are looking forward to Halloween. If if the city’s got any ghosts or any haunted aspects around it there will be a tour for it and they’ll probably sell it on our website. Really popular one is actually Edinburgh and Scotland. You don’t think of you think of goes towards is probably being most popular in the US where kids are into Halloween. But Edinburgh is actually the most haunted city in the world. Really it is.
Laura – Amidlife Traveler: I had no idea it was the most haunted, I was in Edinburgh earlier this year and noticed a lot of ghost tours but…
Will – Get Your Guide: Yes, it is said to be a haunted city and there are a lot of ghost tours…it said to be the most haunted city in the world.
Laura – Amidlife Traveler: And do you know what else to have a lot of? Whiskey Tours. Maybe you want to do a whiskey tour, oh and chocolate…so do whisky, chocolate, and then ghosts.
Will – Get Your Guide: Well, if you drink enough whiskey you might see some things that aren’t there. So that could be could work out well that way.

Laura – Amidlife Traveler: Yeah, it could work out well and be really interesting. So are these like big tour companies that are posting tours?
Will – Get Your Guide: Well, it’s everything from the biggest tour companies in the world to the smallest independent mom and pop or just hobbyist providers who really think they know their neighborhood of the city well and want to take people around show to them. So we work with huge attractions like the Eiffel Tower the Borge Khalifa and Dubai the Sydney Opera House, the One World Observatory in New York City and we work with their ticketing systems to help them efficiently sell tickets online. And we also work with with Joe Schmoe in Southern California who just wants to take people around and show him his part of the beach so you can really do local authentic local experience.
Laura – Amidlife Traveler: Absolutely. So is Get Your Guide a Web site or an app?
Will – Get Your Guide: It’s a Web site and an app that both work together seamlessly. The website is there for you when you’re planning a trip ahead. You’re on your laptop or you’re on your tablet in the comfort of your own home and getting ready for your upcoming trip you’re thinking about what you want to do. Then when you get there the app is there for you and it contains all your mobile tickets including your QR Codes your booking times.
